A Brinks armored car guard was shot and robbed of his firearm outside a Chase Bank on the Southwest Side on Tuesday morning, and Cook County Crime Stoppers is offering a cash reward as investigators search for the gunman.
Chicago police said the 49-year-old courier was outside the Chase Bank at 4363 South Archer Avenue when a man approached him, produced a firearm, and fired multiple shots just before 10 a.m. The victim was struck twice, once in each thigh, and was taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital in critical condition. No other injuries were reported.
The offender escaped in a silver vehicle, traveling southbound on Troy Street and then eastbound on 44th Street.
“This was a brazen and violent act that put not only the victim, but the entire community at risk,” said Paul Rutherford, executive director of Cook County Crime Stoppers. “Someone out there knows who is responsible. We urge them to do the right thing and share what they know. Your information can help bring justice, and you can do so completely anonymously.”
A reward of up to $1,000 is being offered for the next 60 days for information that leads to an arrest, Rutherford said. Crime Stoppers said it does not record calls and does not require callers to identify themselves.
Anyone with information, video footage, or photographs related to the incident is asked to submit tips anonymously by calling 1-800-535-STOP or visiting CPDTip.com. Tipsters are asked to reference CPD case #JJ-532081.
