Knife attack leaves father, 6-year-old injured in Lincoln Park

A 6-year-old boy and his 27-year-old father were injured in a knife attack after a man became aggressive and attacked them Sunday night in Lincoln Park, police said.

At approximately 10:24 p.m., the victims were walking in the 2700 block of North Sheffield Avenue when an unknown man approached them and became aggressive, according to a Chicago police spokesperson. The man produced a sharp object and began a physical altercation with the victims that resulted in the father and son being injured.

The father suffered a puncture wound to his left arm, while the boy sustained a minor laceration to his back, the CPD spokesperson said. Both were taken to Illinois Masonic Hospital, where they were listed in good condition.

CPD said the assailant fled south on foot. Officers were told to be on the lookout for a Black man in his late teens or early 20s, standing 6’1″ or 6’2″ tall with an afro hairstyle. He was wearing a navy jacket, black pants, and carrying a bookbag.
