Shell casings found on school playground after Edgewater shooting

A 46-year-old man was shot after at least two gunmen opened fire near a North Side school late Saturday night, according to Chicago police. It is unclear if the victim was the intended target.

At about 10:50 p.m., officers responded to a call of a person shot in the 5200 block of North Broadway. Police said the man was outside when people he did not know pulled guns and began shooting. Witnesses reported seeing a group of young Hispanic males scattering as the shooting began.

The victim sustained a gunshot wound to the back and was taken to Illinois Masonic Hospital in good condition, according to CPD.

Officers found a trail of shell casings running along an alley and across the playground of Goudy Technology Academy, 5120 North Winthrop Avenue. An officer who reviewed surveillance footage described two gunmen who fled the area on the same scooter. The officer said both were Hispanic males wearing ski masks and black pants. One wore a black top, the other a red jacket with white sleeves. They were last seen riding south on Sheridan Road.
