Most people take the Blue Line to O’Hare to catch a flight. But Chicago police say one man has been taking the train to the airport for a very different reason: to steal cars from the parking garages.

According to a community alert issued Tuesday afternoon, CPD detectives have linked the man to three vehicle thefts at O’Hare parking garages since June 1. The alert said the thief rides the Blue Line to the airport, walks to the parking garages, and pulls on vehicle door handles until he finds one that is unlocked.

Once he finds a vehicle with the keys inside, investigators say, he simply drives away. He stole a Dodge Ram pickup in one case and a Ford F-150 in another. The make and model of the third stolen vehicle were not disclosed. The man has even crashed through garage security gates to make his escape.

Police said the thefts occurred on June 1 at 5:14 a.m., June 30 at 10:25 p.m., and July 13 at 8:25 a.m., according to CPD. They described him as a Black man between 30 and 40 years old who stands about 6 feet to 6 feet 2 inches tall and weighs between 220 and 250 pounds.

Anyone with information about the thefts is asked to contact Area Five detectives at 312-746-7394 or submit an anonymous tip through CPDTIP.com using reference number P26-5-011.
