Joliet man convicted in 2018 killing sold gun, fentanyl to undercover ATF agents: feds

A Joliet man previously convicted of killing another man in 2018 faces federal charges after the ATF said he sold a firearm and approximately 1,000 fentanyl pills to undercover agents in separate transactions. Martell “Haitian” Ollie was taken into custody in Joliet on Wednesday after he consummated the drug deal, according to a federal criminal complaint.

The arrest marks the latest legal challenge for Ollie, who in 2020 pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of second-degree murder in connection with the May 2018 fatal shooting of Donald Woods Jr. in Joliet. At the time, Ollie claimed he acted in self-defense, arguing that Woods was armed with a gun and that the weapon put him in fear for his life. Prosecutors acknowledged Woods had a firearm but maintained he never brandished it. Ollie received a 13-year prison sentence to be served concurrently with four other drug-related sentences, with the term reduced by 50% under state law.

According to the new allegations, the federal operation began in early April when Ollie arranged to sell drugs and a .357 revolver to an undercover Bolingbrook police officer working alongside the ATF. Ollie agreed to complete the transaction in the parking lot of a Mexican restaurant in Joliet but admitted to being nervous because he had never sold a gun to the agent before, the complaint states.

Ollie arrived in a vehicle registered to “one of” his girlfriends with the revolver stuffed between the front seats — a scene captured on a camera secretly carried by the undercover officer, according to the court filing. After receiving $750 cash, Ollie allegedly told the officer, “That b**** ready to go and I gotcha bullets too.”

Then on Wednesday, a different undercover agent conducted a recorded phone call with Ollie in which Ollie offered to sell 1,000 fentanyl pills for $4,000, the complaint said. The two met that afternoon in Joliet, and law enforcement arrested Ollie after he handed the agent a clear plastic bag containing approximately 1,000 blue pills, according to the filing. A field test on some of the pills allegedly came back positive for a substance containing fentanyl.

He now faces federal charges of possession of a firearm by a felon and distribution of fentanyl.

In April 2025, The Patch reported that Ollie had been charged in Will County with pointing a handgun at two women and threatening to kill them in Crest Hill. The status of that case was not available Friday because the Will County Circuit Court Clerk’s public access website was returning errors.
