Cook County Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to an arrest in the death of a 59-year-old man who was found beaten in Greater Grand Crossing this week.

At about 5:12 a.m. Thursday, August 20, 2026, passersby found Ben Figgures unresponsive in the 300 block of West 76th Street, not far from a gas station. Figgures was taken to the University of Chicago Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office determined that he died from blunt force trauma injuries suffered in an assault.

Crime Stoppers has now released a surveillance photo of a man whom Area 2 detectives are trying to identify and speak with in connection with the killing.

“Someone out there knows what happened to Ben Figgures, and we are asking them to do the right thing,” said Paul Rutherford, executive director of Cook County Crime Stoppers. “If you witnessed this incident, know who was responsible, or have information that could help detectives identify the offender or offenders, please come forward. You can remain completely anonymous, and your information could help bring justice to Mr. Figgures and his family.”

Information leading to the arrest of the person or persons responsible may be eligible for a cash reward of up to $10,000.

Tips can be submitted anonymously by calling the Crime Stoppers tip line at 1-800-535-STOP or online at CPDTIP.com. Tipsters should reference case #JK380012. Callers can remain anonymous and will be given a confidential code number to claim any reward.
