Two 15-year-old boys are charged with attempted murder, accused of shooting another 15-year-old boy as he stood outside a restaurant in East Garfield Park last month.

The victim was standing outside a restaurant at 17 South Pulaski Road around 11:16 p.m. on September 1 when the two boys opened fire, police said. He was struck in the right leg. CWB Chicago has learned that federal law enforcement officers conducting covert surveillance in the area saw the gunmen running from the scene. CPD released surveillance images on September 23 showing the suspects, including images captured aboard a CTA bus shortly before the shooting.

Because both of the accused are under 16, their cases are likely to remain in the juvenile justice system, where their identities, details of the allegations, and the outcomes of the cases will be shielded from the public.

In addition to attempted murder, one of the boys is charged with an unrelated felony theft stemming from a June 1 incident in the 3900 block of West North Avenue, CPD said.

CWBChicago was created in 2013 by five residents of Wrigleyville and Boystown who had grown disheartened with inaccurate information that was being provided at local Community Policing (CAPS) meetings. Our coverage area has expanded since then to cover Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, Uptown, and other North Side Areas.
