15-year-old charged after group robs 3 men at gunpoint in Loop

A 15-year-old boy has been charged with robbing three men at gunpoint in the Loop on Saturday night as part of a group of seven, Chicago police said. No charges have been announced against the other six alleged members of the crew.

The victims, a 19-year-old man and two 18-year-old men, were in the 600 block of South State Street around 10:30 p.m. when the group confronted them and displayed at least one firearm, according to CPD. After taking property from the victims, the group fled into the Jackson Red Line station.

The victims quickly found help from police officers downtown securing the route for Sunday morning’s Chicago Marathon. They approached an officer, who radioed details of the robbery to other officers.

Meanwhile, a CPD surveillance team was already tracking the suspects on camera as they circled back and returned to the downtown streets. Officers apprehended at least three suspects, but charges have been announced against only one: a 15-year-old boy arrested in the 300 block of South State Street. He is charged with armed robbery with a firearm, police said.

No other details are available about the boy because he is charged in juvenile court, where proceedings are shielded from public review.
