Armed man takes opioids in North Side pharmacy hold-up

A man brandished two knives as he stole drugs from a Walgreens in the Irving Park neighborhood on Sunday afternoon, police said. No one is in custody.

Employees said the offender jumped the pharmacy counter around 1:30 p.m. while armed with two knives, then collected three bottles of hydrocodone from the shelves. Hydrocodone is an opioid painkiller.

The offender then ran out of the store and fled northbound on the west side of Kedzie. He’s white, in his mid-20’s, about 5’10” tall, and thin. Walgreens workers said he’s clean-shaven, has blue eyes, and wore a dark gray hoodie and black jogging pants.

Area North detectives are investigating.

CWBChicago was created in 2013 by five residents of Wrigleyville and Boystown who had grown disheartened with inaccurate information that was being provided at local Community Policing (CAPS) meetings. Our coverage area has expanded since then to cover Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, Uptown, and other North Side Areas. But our mission remains unchanged: To provide original public safety reporting with better context and greater detail than mainstream media outlets. Our editorial email address is news@cwbchicago.com
