Police are investigating at least three robberies reported on the Near North Side and in the Loop on Saturday. No arrests have been made and the cases do not appear to be related.
Two women stole a customer’s purse as the victim was having her make-up done at Nordstorm, 55 East Grand, around 2:30 p.m. Saturday. The offenders then fought and battered a cosmetologist who tried to stop them, a witness said.
The offenders were two black females, one of whom wore a red jacket, black pants, and white gym shoes. The other wore a black jacket, blue pants, and black shoes. One of the women carried a pink Disney bag as they headed toward the Grand Red Line, a witness reported.
Earlier, an offender robbed a woman after following her off a train at Grand, according to a police report. The man pushed her, stole her book bag, and fled around 8:15 a.m. Police said the woman described the robber as a black male who wore a black sweater.
Then, in the Loop, a woman pepper-sprayed another woman and stole the victim’s phone on the 100 block of South Wabash around 8:30 a.m. The offender is female, black, about 5’7” tall, and 200 pounds. She wore a purple coat, a black hoodie over her head, and was last seen heading southbound on Wabash.
The Near North Side recorded 417 robberies last year, the most of any year since at least 2002, the first full year for which city crime records are publicly available.
