3 teens tried to carjack man in Lincoln Park, police say

Three 16-year-old boys are charged with trying to carjack a man in Lincoln Park on Friday evening, police said.

The crew approached a 59-year-old man and tried to strike up a conversation as he got out of his car on the 1700 block of North Dayton at 9:56 p.m., CPD spokesperson Kellie Bartoli said.

They then tried to take the man’s belongings and attempted to drive away with his Lexus, but they were unable to get it started, according to Bartoli. The three fled the area on foot, but police located them about 10 minutes later.

All three juveniles are charged with felony attempted vehicular hijacking. No further information is available about them because they are minors.

CWBChicago was created in 2013 by five residents of Wrigleyville and Boystown who had grown disheartened with inaccurate information that was being provided at local Community Policing (CAPS) meetings. Our coverage area has expanded since then to cover Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, Uptown, and other North Side Areas. But our mission remains unchanged: To provide original public safety reporting with better context and greater detail than mainstream media outlets. Our editorial email address is news@cwbchicago.com
