Carjackers beat, robbed man near Clark-Diversey, police say

Three carjackers pulled a man from his car, beat him, and stole his vehicle on the border of Lincoln Park and Lakeview early Monday, police said. No arrests have been made.

The victim, a 54-year-old man, was in the 400 block of West Diversey when three men opened his car door and pulled him from the vehicle at 3:29 a.m., CPD spokesperson Kellie Bartoli said.

When the man tried to fight off the carjackers, they punched him repeatedly in the head and face, then got into his silver Hyundai Sonata and sped away, according to police.

Bartoli said the victim’s vision became impaired following the attack. Police transported him to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where he is listed in fair condition.

Police did not release any descriptions of the offenders. Area Three detectives are investigating.
