A gunman fired a shot into the air as he robbed a man outside the Daley Center early Tuesday, police said. No one was injured and no one is in custody, but the entire incident was captured by multiple surveillance cameras.
The victim, age 22, was walking eastbound on Washington Street along Daley Plaza when a black car pulled up with three occupants, according to police. One man got out of the vehicle, told the man to hand over all of his belongings, and then fired into the air, CPD spokesperson Sally Bown said.
The gunman then pointed the pistol at the victim and took the man’s valuables, got back into the car, and fled, according to Bown.
Several shell casings were found in the area, Bown said.
Surveillance cameras from City Hall, the Daley Center, and the Cook County Building captured the robbery and the offenders’ getaway.
According to the victim, the robber’s car is a black Dodge Charger that was occupied by three Black men in their early 20’s who wore face masks with designs on the front. One man had dreadlocks, and another wore a jumpsuit, the victim said.
