Man critically wounded in Old Town shooting tonight

A 33-year-old man is in critical condition after someone shot him as he walked near an Old Town apartment building Wednesday evening, according to police reporting.

Patrol officers were flagged down by citizens who took them to an apartment where the 33-year-old man was found unconscious and bleeding, according to the report. Some bystanders told police that the man shot himself in the thigh while sitting on the couch, but officers did not find a gun at the scene, and the investigation quickly took a different course.

Now, police say the man was walking in the 400 block of West Evergreen “when he heard shots and felt pain” at 6:41 p.m.

Police applied a tourniquet to stem the man’s blood loss, and an ambulance transported him to Northwestern Memorial Hospital.

No one is in custody. Area Three detectives are investigating.

CWBChicago was created in 2013 by five residents of Wrigleyville and Boystown who had grown disheartened with inaccurate information that was being provided at local Community Policing (CAPS) meetings. Our coverage area has expanded since then to cover Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, Uptown, and other North Side Areas.
