CPD is sending hundreds of officers from across the city to scare looters away from the Magnificent Mile, but that wasn’t enough to stop a group of muggers from robbing a woman outside the Water Tower complex Thursday evening.

The woman, age 59, told police she was walking on the corner of Michigan Avenue and Pearson Street when a group of three offenders robbed her of her wallet and Louis Vuitton purse around 8:40 p.m., a police spokesperson said. All of the robbers then ran south on Michigan.

She flagged down nearby police officers who searched the area, but did not locate the offenders. The woman’s purse and wallet were found nearby, according to the spokesperson.

One of the robbers was described as being a Black female with long blonde hair and black square-shaped glasses. The other suspects were men.

About 10 p.m., another 911 caller reported being robbed by a similarly-described group inside a hotel lobby not far from where the woman was mugged. Police were meeting with the possible second victim on Friday morning.

CWBChicago was created in 2013 by five residents of Wrigleyville and Boystown who had grown disheartened with inaccurate information that was being provided at local Community Policing (CAPS) meetings. Our coverage area has expanded since then to cover Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, Uptown, and other North Side Areas.
