Two women were robbed and carjacked Thursday night in the Lakeview neighborhood, police said. Meanwhile, police issued a community alert after two carjackings were recently reported in the Avondale neighborhood.
Police said two women, both age 26, were carjacked around 11:30 p.m. Thursday on the 1900 block of West Nelson, near Hamlin Park. The victims were sitting in a parked car when a man walked up to the driver’s side of the vehicle and said he was lost.
He then pointed a handgun at the women, told them to get out of the car, and took their valuables, CPD spokesperson Sally Bown said. After the women complied, the gunman and a second offender got into their gold Honda Accord and fled southbound on Damen Avenue. The women were not injured.
The victims described the gunman as a younger Black man with dreadlocks who wore a light blue hoodie. Area Three detectives are investigating the case.
