Boy, 17, shot in Uptown on Saturday, police say

A 17-year-old boy is in good condition after being shot in Uptown on Saturday afternoon, police said. The victim told police he was in an alley near the 4500 block of North Broadway around 11 a.m. when he heard gunfire and realized he had been shot, according to a CPD report and police media statement.

The teen arrived at Thorek Hospital about an hour later to be treated for a gunshot wound to his left thumb, the police report said.

Police did not receive any calls of shots fired in the area around the time of the shooting. Officers searched the area and were seen examining a possible crime scene in the 4400 block of North Clifton on Saturday afternoon. Area Three detectives are investigating.

He is the third person shot in Uptown this year. On April 27, a 40-year-old man was shot in the arm behind the Uptown Theater. Then, around noontime on May 1, a 28-year-old man was shot near Argyle and Kenmore. No charges have been filed in either case.

Uptown recorded seven shooting victims at this point in both 2020 and 2019.

CWBChicago was created in 2013 by five residents of Wrigleyville and Boystown who had grown disheartened with inaccurate information that was being provided at local Community Policing (CAPS) meetings. Our coverage area has expanded since then to cover Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, Uptown, and other North Side Areas. But our mission remains unchanged: To provide original public safety reporting with better context and greater detail than mainstream media outlets. Our editorial email address is news@cwbchicago.com
