Teen charged with carjacking a woman and her 2-year-old with a baseball bat in Wicker Park

A 17-year-old boy is being charged with threatening a woman and her 2-year-old daughter with a baseball bat during a carjacking in Wicker Park last April, police said.

Police arrested the boy on the 1300 block of South Kostner yesterday to face a charge of aggravated vehicular hijacking with a weapon in connection with the carjacking, which took place on the 1200 block of North Hoyne around 11:36 p.m. on April 14, 2021.

The 33-year-old woman and her child were in their 2017 Cadillac waiting for the woman’s husband, who worked at a nearby restaurant, when two hijackers walked up, according to a CPD report reviewed by CWBChicago at the time.

One of the hijackers broke the woman’s driver’s side window with a baseball bat and the men ordered her and her daughter out of the car. The second offender was believed to be armed with a knife during the crime.

CPD did not release any new details about the incident. Further information about the teen is limited because he is a juvenile.

CWBChicago was created in 2013 by five residents of Wrigleyville and Boystown who had grown disheartened with inaccurate information that was being provided at local Community Policing (CAPS) meetings. Our coverage area has expanded since then to cover Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, Uptown, and other North Side Areas. But our mission remains unchanged: To provide original public safety reporting with better context and greater detail than mainstream media outlets. Our editorial email address is news@cwbchicago.com
