Update 8:17 p.m. — The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office tonight identified the man as Jovan Cabrera. It listed his home address as the apartment where police found him.
Update May 4 — The woman has been identified by the Cook County medical examiner’s office as Brittany Kinlow, 23, a resident of the apartment building.
Police on Tuesday found a man dead inside the same apartment building where a woman was murdered Monday afternoon, according to a CPD report. Officials have not said if the two deaths are related, but police found the man’s body during the execution of a search warrant, a source said.
CPD closed local streets to traffic shortly before 1 p.m. as Area Three detectives prepared to execute the warrant at 1062 West Bryn Mawr.
Officers found the man dead of an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound inside an 8th-floor apartment, the source said. The official cause of death will be determined by the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office.
The 26-year-old man’s most recent arrest in Chicago was for domestic battery in 2019, according to CPD records.
Tuesday’s discovery was made almost exactly 24 hours after a witness found the body of a 23-year-old woman lying near a laundry room on the building’s first floor Monday afternoon. Authorities have not released her name to the public. The medical examiner ruled her death a homicide on Tuesday afternoon.
A witness saw police coming and going on the building’s 8th floor after the woman’s body was found Monday, but no arrests were made.
Area Three detectives are investigating both deaths.
