CHICAGO — A woman was stabbed and critically injured in Grant Park on Saturday evening, Chicago police said. Detectives were questioning a suspect.

The victim, 26, was at the skate park in the 1100 block of South Michigan when she got into an argument with a 44-year-old man, according to a CPD media statement.

Police said the man pulled out a knife, stabbed the woman in the chest, and fled the scene. Cops found him on a CTA bus a few minutes later and took him into custody.

The woman is in critical condition at Northwestern Memorial Hospital.

A handful of serious crimes have occurred at the skate Park in recent years.

  • A 15-year-old boy suffered a graze wound to his head after someone opened fire near the park in July 2020.
  • That same summer, four homeless men were stabbed as they slept in Grant Park or along the Red Line. Two of the victims were stabbed near the skate park, one fatally. Prosecutors charged a man with those attacks. His case is still pending.
  • Another man was shot in the skate park in September 2021.
