CHICAGO — Logan Square was ground zero once again for an armed robbery spree on Thursday afternoon, according to Chicago police reports. In one incident, a crew robbed a victim and then carjacked a courier who was dropping off a grocery delivery.
In a second wave of robberies early Friday morning, victims were targeted in Lincoln Park, Logan Square, and the Loop.
At least three holdups were reported within 30 minutes yesterday afternoon in Logan Square, starting in the 3100 block of West Fullerton around 2:25 p.m.
The victim was walking toward his home through his backyard when an armed robber ran up to him from a blue car that stopped in the alley, a Chicago police report said. The robber pointed a pistol at the victim’s face, demanded his property, then returned to the car.
An officer at the scene said the robber was a Black male wearing a black hoodie, a gaiter-style mask, and jeans who stood about 5’8″ tall.
Moments later, a double robbery occurred in the 2300 block of North Spaulding.
A 44-year-old man was delivering groceries when a blue sedan, possibly a Kia Optima, pulled up, and two robbers got out, according to a CPD spokesperson and a witness.
They demanded control of the driver’s blue 2004 Lexus RX330 and drove away with the blue sedan following, police said.
The crew also robbed a 23-year-old man at gunpoint on the same block, according to CPD.
Chicago police found the blue Kia abandoned in an alley behind the 2200 block of North Sawyer shortly after 3 p.m., according to CPD records. The officers said they saw a gun lying inside the vehicle. Its back passenger window was broken, suggesting that it had been stolen.
More robberies were reported overnight.
At about 2:20 a.m., a man flagged down police near the McDonald’s at 1737 West Fullerton and reported that he had been kidnapped and robbed by people who forced their way into his vehicle near North Avenue Beach. Police arrested a 17-year-old boy nearby, and prosecutors charged him with the crime.
About 15 minutes later, a man was crossing the intersection of Webster and Southport in Lincoln Park when a group of men jumped out of a car and tried to rob him, according to a witness who saw a video of the incident. He ran away, and the crew chased him momentarily before they returned to their car and left.
Yet another victim flagged down police in the Loop. He told officers three armed men exited a small white SUV and robbed him at gunpoint in the 800 block of South Michigan at 3 a.m.
