Chicago police say a man is being uncooperative after he was shot during a party inside a Lakeview home overnight.
Officers responded to the home in the 1200 block of West Newport after 911 callers reported people fighting and gunfire around 3:14 a.m. A 30-year-old man was found outside the house with a gunshot wound to his left thigh, according to CPD.
Investigators found a shell casing in the kitchen of the home, a large, luxury residence that is rented nightly online. Police also put local hospitals on alert for a possible second victim after cops found a blood trail leading down an alley behind the home.
According to an active online listing, the home rents for about $550 a night during the winter but is priced at $2,000 a night during the Cubs season.
This morning’s victim is the tenth person shot in Lakeview this year. The shooting came one day after two men were shot near Wrigley Field while walking in the 900 block of West Grace.
At this point last year, 16 people had been shot in Lakeview. The neighborhood had 11 shooting victims at this point in 2021. Other recent shooting totals for the neighborhood include eight in 2020, five in 2019, one in 2018, three in 2017, and 16 in 2016.
The total for 2020 includes one police shooting and two unintentional self-inflicted injuries.
