CHICAGO — A 17-year-old boy has been charged with committing 25 armed robberies and two carjackings, mostly during December 2023, Chicago police said Wednesday.

According to a source familiar with the investigation, the boy has faced serious charges before, including attempted murder and robbery. He was arrested Tuesday at the juvenile justice center, suggesting that some of those earlier cases are still active.

The earliest robbery in the current set of charges occurred on November 27 in the 3500 block of West McLean in Logan Square. Two men, ages 32 and 58, were robbed there.

On December 3, he helped rob a 26-year-old man in the 1100 block of West Mayfield and a 39-year-old man in the 5900 block of West North Avenue, according to police.

He allegedly robbed six people in the West Loop on December 4. Both robberies involved four or five men who jumped out of a maroon Dodge Durango with Texas license plates to rob victims on the street, according to Chicago police reports.

In the first incident, two women and a man were walking in the 900 block of West Lake when the crew confronted them and struck them in the head around 2:45 a.m., police said. The crew took their purses, phones, and other items at gunpoint and then escaped in the SUV.

About 30 minutes later, four men got out of the same SUV, displayed at least two guns, and robbed a 35-year-old woman and a 37-year-old man near the 500 block of West Jackson.

The third robbery that morning occurred in the 900 block of West Van Buren. A 34-year-old man was robbed there.

On December 6, a 49-year-old man was in the 1100 block of West Grand when two dark-colored vehicles pulled up, and six robbers emerged with firearms around 2:30 a.m. The boy was one of those robbers, police say.

He’s also accused of robbing a man in the 5200 block of West Hirsch that day.

Police say he robbed a 44-year-old woman in the 3600 block of West Armitage on December 12. On December 20, he allegedly robbed two men in Belmont Cragin and a third man in West Garfield Park.

On Christmas Eve, he allegedly robbed a 26-year-old man and a 37-year-old man in the 2000 block of North Leamington. A 33-year-old woman was robbed in the 5600 block of West Henderson, too.

The boy allegedly robbed a 32-year-old man in the 2000 block of North Lawler and two men in the mid-30s in the 800 block of West Washington on December 30.

Around 4:25 a.m. on New Year’s Eve, he robbed a 27-year-old man in the 800 block of West Blackhawk, not far from the North-Clybourn Red Line station. Three masked gunmen exited a gray sedan and robbed the victim of a wallet, phone, and keys, according to initial information.

Also on New Year’s Eve, he allegedly robbed a 19-year-old woman and a 20-year-old man in the 2100 block of West LeMoyne.

No other information is available about the boy because he is charged as a juvenile.
