Accused carjacker is in the wind after cutting off his ankle monitor while awaiting trial, sheriff says
After prosecutors charged Jamond Thomas with carjacking a food delivery driver at gunpoint in late 2023, a Cook County judge ordered him jailed as a public safety risk. But another judge reversed that decision months later, allowing Thomas, 21, to go home on an ankle monitor. He’s not wearing the ankle monitor anymore. He cut it off and hasn’t been seen since, according to the Cook County Sheriff’s Office.

2 colleges warn of sexual abuse attacks as viral videos show women confronting possible suspect
Students at two colleges are being warned about a man who is sexually abusing women on or near their campuses in the Loop and Rogers Park. The alerts issued by Loyola University and Columbia College come as two women separately posted videos of a man they said sexually abused them at CTA stations—one in the Loop and the other in Lincoln Park.

Chicago cop accidentally fires shot while rounding up 3 armed robbery suspects in Austin neighborhood
A Chicago police officer fired at least one shot as cops rounded up three armed robbery suspects in the Austin neighborhood overnight. At this point, officials have not released any details about what happened, but COPA, the Civilian Office of Police Accountability, said its investigators were heading to the scene of an “officer-involved shooting.”
