CHICAGO — A man is recovering after being shot in the West Loop overnight.
The 28-year-old was near Dylan’s Bar, 118 South Clinton, when another man fired a shot, striking him in the left leg around 1:50 a.m., according to a preliminary police report. He was taken to Stroger Hospital in good condition. The gunman was last seen heading north on Clinton, but no description was immediately available.
In a brief media statement, CPD said the victim “was involved in a verbal altercation inside an establishment with an unknown male offender. The altercation continued outside when the victim heard gunshots, felt pain, and realized he was shot in the leg. The department did not identify the establishment.
This morning’s shooting is the first in the West Loop since an off-duty Cook County correctional officer shot a man who tried to rob him in the 200 block of North Morgan in October. Prosecutors said the officer and two robbers got into a shootout during the botched holdup attempt, leaving one offender with five gunshot wounds. Robbery charges have been filed against two men.
On September 1, a 34-year-old man was fatally shot while standing in the 1000 block of West Lake. Police said a gunman opened fire from a vehicle, striking the victim in the head.
