CHICAGO — Prosecutors have filed charges in two unrelated murders that occurred on opposite sides of the city Tuesday night. Both of the accused are scheduled to appear for detention hearings later today at the Leighton Criminal Courthouse.
Greater detail about the allegations will be released when they appear in court, but here is what Chicago police have said about the cases so far:
Irving Martinez-Hernandez, 30, is charged with the fatal stabbing of Juan Carlos Tello Suarez, 34, in Albany Park. Passersby found Suarez, suffering from multiple stab wounds, lying on the corner of Drake and Sunnyside around 7:53 p.m. Officers determined that Suarez had been in a fight with a man who pulled out a knife and stabbed him. The police found a pocketknife in the street nearby and arrested Martinez-Hernandez within an hour. Both men lived within a block of the intersection where the murder occurred.
Tiara Lee-Roberts, 28, will be facing allegations that she shot and killed a 30-year-old woman during an argument on the 69th Street Red Line platform around 9:46 p.m. The assailant fired one shot, striking Kamari McMillen, 30, in the neck. Officers at the scene said the shooting was recorded by CTA surveillance cameras. Police arrested Lee-Roberts about two hours after the shooting.
