A suspect is in custody after a 24-year-old man was shot during an armed robbery Monday evening on the Northwest Side, Chicago police said.
The victim was in an alley behind the 7000 block of West Belmont Avenue around 8:30 p.m. when a robber approached him, displayed a gun, and demanded his valuables, according to a CPD statement. The robber then fired shots, striking the victim in the abdomen, before fleeing with his property. EMS transported the victim to Loyola University Medical Center in critical condition.
Using information from witnesses and surveillance video, officers searched the area and located a suspect in an alley behind the 3000 block of North New England Avenue a short time later. Officers recovered a firearm and took the suspect into custody. Charges were pending as of Tuesday morning.
