Shot fired during lakefront robbery in Lincoln Park

Five people robbed a man on the lakefront and fired a shot at him during the mugging early Sunday, police said. The victim was not injured, but the group made off with his wallet and phone. The incident may be gang-related.

At about 3:37 a.m., officers responded to calls of shots fired near the lakefront at Fullerton Avenue but found no one in distress. About 20 minutes later, a man flagged down a tow truck driver and asked him to call 911, saying he had been robbed.

The 25-year-old victim told police he was approached by five unknown offenders who forcefully took his belongings, a Chicago Police Department spokesperson said. One of the offenders then fired a shot toward the victim, though no one was struck.

An officer at the scene said the victim had seen the group earlier at the beach and believed they may be Satan Disciples gang members. He described the group as Hispanic men between 18 and 24 years old, with one wearing a yellow shirt. No arrests have been reported.

CWBChicago was created in 2013 by five residents of Wrigleyville and Boystown who had grown disheartened with inaccurate information that was being provided at local Community Policing (CAPS) meetings. Our coverage area has expanded since then to cover Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, Uptown, and other North Side Areas.
