A woman was shot and critically injured in Lincoln Park early Sunday, and the local alderman says the shooting occurred outside a neighborhood bar.
There is some confusion in public statements about when the shooting actually occurred. Both CPD and Ald. Timmy Knudsen (43rd) have said the shooting happened around 4 a.m. However, CWB Chicago has learned that the victim arrived at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in a private vehicle well before that time.
In fact, multiple sources told us the shooting likely occurred shortly before 3 a.m. in the 600 block of West Belden Avenue. Here’s what we’ve learned.
At 2:59 a.m., CPD responded to multiple calls of shots fired in the 600 block of West Belden, with callers reporting people running from the area. Officers searched the scene but did not locate any injured victims.
About 45 minutes later, officers were dispatched to Northwestern Memorial Hospital after the victim, a 39-year-old woman, arrived seeking treatment for gunshot wounds to her chest and thigh. She was immediately taken into surgery, and CPD said she was in critical condition.
Officers returned to the area of Lincoln Avenue and Belden Avenue, where they found shell casings at the entrance of an alley in the 600 block of West Belden, just east of Lincoln. They also discovered a blood trail leading toward the nearby bar district, according to officers at the scene.
Late Sunday morning, Knudsen emailed constituents, saying the victim “was shot outside of a bar on the 600 block of W. Belden Avenue.”
He did not identify the bar or indicate whether he believed a specific establishment was directly connected to the shooting. Knudsen encouraged anyone with information about the case to contact the police.
The woman is the second person shot in Lincoln Park this year. The neighborhood had one victim in all of last year and two in 2024. However, 2021 and 2023 were particularly bad in the neighborhood as mass shootings ran up the totals with 18 and 11 victims, respectively.
