CHICAGO — A 23-year-old man was fatally shot in Albany Park on Monday evening, Chicago police said. He is the third person murdered in Albany Park over the holiday weekend.
Around 5:47 p.m. Monday, police responded to shots fired calls and quickly located the injured man in the 3100 block of West Carmen. He had suffered a gunshot wound to the abdomen. Officers administered first aid to try to save the man, but he succumbed to his injuries at St. Francis Hospital.
Investigators found a rifle and about 20 shell casings at the scene.
Eric Tendian posted a video of the shooting scene on Twitter. He said the man was shot across from a large playground.
“Kids were watching what was going on,” he tweeted.
Police said the gunman fired from a vehicle and witnesses reported seeing a red car speeding out of the area. Shortly after, investigators may have found it burning in an alley behind the 3700 block of North Kilpatrick.
That would be consistent with what happened after two men were killed in the neighborhood on Friday night. Shortly after police found the victims gravely wounded, they located the shooters’ suspected getaway car burning in the 4100 block of North Kenmore.
Friday’s victims were killed in an alley behind the 4700 block of North Troy around 11:20 p.m. Residents reported seeing men with guns chasing each other and firing shots, with at least one man hiding behind a trash can to get away from others.
Police said they found up to 15 shell casings near the victims, with about 10 more behind the 4700 block of North Sawyer.
