Robber whose partner was killed by knife-wielding victim was on electronic monitoring for a felony gun case, prosecutors say

CHICAGO — New details emerged on Friday about the botched holdup that left a would-be robber dead and the second in Chicago police custody after the victim fought back. And, prosecutors said, the robber who survived, Tommery Moore, was wearing an electronic monitoring bracelet for a pending felony gun case.

Moore, 20, was detained this afternoon by Judge Caroline Glennon-Goodman on multiple felony counts, including armed robbery, armed kidnapping, and three gun charges.

According to a CPD report, surveillance video showed the 37-year-old victim was targeted at the ATM inside Falcon Fuel, 7600 South Halsted, around 11:15 a.m. Wednesday.

Moore and his now-dead partner, Toron Davis, 37, were seen having a “conversation” with the victim before Davis started taking items from the man’s pockets, the report said.

The situation escalated when Davis grabbed the victim by his dreadlocks and tried to walk him out of the gas station. That’s when the victim fought back, pulling out a knife and slicing Davis’ neck, according to CPD.

As Davis bled profusely, all three men began wrestling on the ground. Moore allegedly struck the victim in the face with a pistol during the fight, which ended when Davis ran out of the station’s minimart, clutching his neck, the report said.

Davis walked directly into a pickup truck at the gas pumps and fell face-first to the pavement. He was pronounced dead at the University of Chicago Medical Center.

Moore allegedly ran from the minimart and ditched his firearm under the passenger seat of a nearby vehicle before police arrived.

Court records show that Moore has been on electronic monitoring since April 30, the day prosecutors charged him with possessing a stolen firearm in the 5500 block of South Wells.

Davis was also on felony pretrial release. Court records show he was charged with driving on a license suspended due to DUI and resisting police on January 26. He never bothered to show up for court in that case. A warrant for his arrest had been out since January 29.
