A 30-year-old woman was shot Tuesday morning when two armed men approached the vehicle she was sitting in with her boyfriend and opened fire in West Rogers Park, according to a preliminary Chicago Police Department report.
The couple was sitting in the man’s Volkswagen Tiguan near the corner of Glenlake Avenue and Rockwell Street around 5:38 a.m. when the two suspects walked up to the vehicle, police said. The boyfriend, who was not injured, told officers he asked the men what they were doing in the area. Both men then pulled out firearms and began shooting. He immediately accelerated away from the scene while the gunmen fled on foot, police said.
One bullet passed through the woman’s right leg and became lodged in her left leg, according to the initial report. Her boyfriend drove her to Swedish Hospital, where she was treated for her injuries. Bullet holes could be seen in the side of the Volkswagen as it sat outside the hospital.
The victims described the shooters as a Black male wearing a Pittsburgh Pirates baseball cap, a white T-shirt, and black shorts, and a Hispanic male wearing a brown hoodie. No one was in custody as of Tuesday afternoon.
In an email to constituents, Ald. Andre Vasquez (40th) said detectives are seeking surveillance video and witnesses who may have information about the shooting. He encouraged anyone with information to contact Area 3 detectives at 312-744-8261 and reference case number JK-305347.
