A 32-year-old woman is in serious condition after someone shot her on a Rogers Park sidewalk overnight, police said. Shootings in the neighborhood have doubled compared to last year.
The woman told police she was walking on the 7700 block of North Paulina when she heard the shots fired around 3:45 a.m. She arrived at St. Francis Hospital in Evanston by car a short time later. Officers said she suffered a gunshot wound to her stomach and a graze wound to her leg.
Police marked about ten shell casings and a parked car appeared to be struck by bullets at the scene, according to a witness.
Area Three detectives are investigating.
So far this year, nine people have been shot in Rogers Park, up from four at this point last year, according to records maintained by CWB Chicago.
A 23-year-old woman was shot and stabbed by another woman during an argument on the 7100 block of North Glenwood on Friday morning.
On April 23, a 40-year-old man was shot in an alley behind the 1300 block of West Morse.
Police have not announced arrests in either case.
Note: A CPD media statement said Monday’s shooting occurred on the 7400 block of North Paulina. The correct address, according to witnesses and CPD dispatch records, is on the 7700 block of North Paulina.
